Ezra 7:26

7:26 Everyone who does not observe both the law of your God and the law of the king will be completely 1  liable to the appropriate penalty, whether it is death or banishment or confiscation of property or detainment in prison.”

Romans 13:3-4

Context
13:3 (for rulers cause no fear for good conduct but for bad). Do you desire not to fear authority? Do good and you will receive its commendation, 13:4 for it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be in fear, for it does not bear the sword in vain. It is God’s servant to administer retribution on the wrongdoer.

13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except by God’s appointment, 2  and the authorities that exist have been instituted by God.

[2:14]  3 sn Gentile is a NT term for a non-Jew.

[2:14]  4 tn Some (e.g. C. E. B. Cranfield, Romans [ICC], 1:135-37) take the phrase φύσει (fusei, “by nature”) to go with the preceding “do not have the law,” thus: “the Gentiles who do not have the law by nature,” that is, by virtue of not being born Jewish.

[2:14]  5 tn Grk “do by nature the things of the law.”
