Genesis 23:1
ContextGenesis 21:22
Context21:22 At that time Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, “God is with you 5 in all that you do.
[23:11] 1 tn Heb “give.” The perfect tense has here a present nuance; this is a formal, legally binding declaration. Abraham asked only for a burial site/cave within the field; Ephron agrees to sell him the entire field.
[23:11] 2 tn The Hebrew text adds “to you I give [i.e., sell] it.” This is redundant in English and has not been translated for stylistic reasons.
[23:11] 3 tn Heb “in the presence of the sons of my people.”
[23:1] 4 tn Heb “And the years of Sarah were one hundred years and twenty years and seven years, the years of the life of Sarah.”
[21:22] 5 sn God is with you. Abimelech and Phicol recognized that Abraham enjoyed special divine provision and protection.
