[30:1]  1 tn Heb “Rachel.” The proper name has been replaced by the pronoun (“she”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[30:1]  2 tn Heb “sons.”

[30:2]  3 tn Heb “and the anger of Jacob was hot.”

[30:2]  4 tn Heb “who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb.”

[30:1]  5 tn Heb “Rachel.” The proper name has been replaced by the pronoun (“she”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[30:1]  6 tn Heb “sons.”

[8:6]  7 tn The introductory verbal form וַיְהִי (vayÿhi), traditionally rendered “and it came to pass,” serves as a temporal indicator and has not been translated here.

[8:6]  8 tn Heb “opened the window in the ark which he had made.” The perfect tense (“had made”) refers to action preceding the opening of the window, and is therefore rendered as a past perfect. Since in English “had made” could refer to either the ark or the window, the order of the phrases was reversed in the translation to clarify that the window is the referent.

[15:12]  9 tn Grk “And the.” Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[15:12]  10 tn Grk “the”; in context the article is used as a possessive pronoun (ExSyn 215).

[15:12]  11 tn L&N 57.19 notes that in nonbiblical contexts in which the word οὐσία (ousia) occurs, it refers to considerable possessions or wealth, thus “estate.”

[15:12]  12 tn L&N 57.3, “to belong to or come to belong to, with the possible implication of by right or by inheritance.”

[15:12]  13 tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “so” to indicate the father’s response to the younger son’s request.

[15:12]  14 tn Grk “the”; in context the article is used as a possessive pronoun (ExSyn 215).

[15:12]  15 sn He divided his assets between them. There was advice against doing this in the OT Apocrypha (Sir 33:20). The younger son would get half of what the older son received (Deut 21:17).
