50:11 When the Canaanites who lived in the land saw them mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a very sad occasion 1  for the Egyptians.” That is why its name was called 2  Abel Mizraim, 3  which is beyond the Jordan.

Numbers 20:29

[50:11]  3 sn The name Abel Mizraim means “the mourning of Egypt.”

[8:2]  5 sn Made loud lamentation. For someone who was stoned to death, lamentation was normally not allowed (m. Sanhedrin 6:6). The remark points to an unjust death.
