10:11 From that land he went ¹  to Assyria, ²  where he built Nineveh, ³  Rehoboth-Ir, ⁴  Calah, ⁵ 

Genesis 34:21

34:21 “These men are at peace with us. So let them live in the land and travel freely in it, for the land is wide enough ⁶  for them. We will take their daughters for wives, and we will give them our daughters to marry. ⁷ 

[10:11]  ¹ tn The subject of the verb translated “went” is probably still Nimrod. However, it has also been interpreted that “Ashur went,” referring to a derivative power.

[10:11]  ² tn Heb “Asshur.”

[10:11]  ³ sn Nineveh was an ancient Assyrian city situated on the Tigris River.

[10:11]  ⁴ sn The name Rehoboth-Ir means “and broad streets of a city,” perhaps referring to a suburb of Nineveh.

[10:11]  ⁵ sn Calah (modern Nimrud) was located twenty miles north of Nineveh.

[34:21]  ⁶ tn Heb “wide on both hands,” that is, in both directions.
