14:11 The four victorious kings ¹  took all the possessions and food of Sodom and Gomorrah and left.

Genesis 18:20

18:20 So the Lord said, “The outcry against ²  Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so blatant ³ 

Genesis 19:24

19:24 Then the Lord rained down ⁴  sulfur and fire ⁵  on Sodom and Gomorrah. It was sent down from the sky by the Lord. ⁶ 

[14:11]  ¹ tn Heb “they”; the referent (the four victorious kings, see v. 9) has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[18:20]  ² tn Heb “the outcry of Sodom,” which apparently refers to the outcry for divine justice from those (unidentified persons) who observe its sinful ways.

[18:20]  ³ tn Heb “heavy.”

[19:24]  ³ tn The disjunctive clause signals the beginning of the next scene and highlights God’s action.

[19:24]  ⁴ tn Or “burning sulfur” (the traditional “fire and brimstone”).

[19:24]  ⁵ tn Heb “from the Lord from the heavens.” The words “It was sent down” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.
