Genesis 19:33

19:33 So that night they made their father drunk with wine, ¹  and the older daughter ²  came and had sexual relations with her father. ³  But he was not aware that she had sexual relations with him and then got up. ⁴

19:35 So they made their father drunk ⁵  that night as well, and the younger one came and had sexual relations with him. ⁶  But he was not aware that she had sexual relations with him and then got up. ⁷ 

Genesis 37:35

37:35 All his sons and daughters stood by ⁸  him to console him, but he refused to be consoled. “No,” he said, “I will go to the grave mourning my son.” ⁹  So Joseph’s ¹⁰  father wept for him.

[19:33]  ³ tn Heb “and the firstborn came and lied down with her father.” The expression “lied down with” here and in the following verses is a euphemism for sexual relations.

[37:35]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “and he said, ‘Indeed I will go down to my son mourning to Sheol.’” Sheol was viewed as the place where departed spirits went after death.
