[22:16]  1 tn Heb “By myself I swear.”

[22:16]  2 tn Heb “the oracle of the Lord.” The phrase refers to a formal oracle or decree from the Lord.

[31:7]  3 tn This rare verb means “to make a fool of” someone. It involves deceiving someone so that their public reputation suffers (see Exod 8:25).

[39:17]  5 tn Heb “and she spoke to him according to these words, saying.”

[39:17]  6 sn That Hebrew slave. Now, when speaking to her husband, Potiphar’s wife refers to Joseph as a Hebrew slave, a very demeaning description.

[39:17]  7 tn Heb “came to me to make fun of me.” The statement needs no explanation because of the connotations of “came to me” and “to make fun of me.” See the note on the expression “humiliate us” in v. 14.
