Genesis 23:11

23:11 “No, my lord! Hear me out. I sell ¹  you both the field and the cave that is in it. ²  In the presence of my people ³  I sell it to you. Bury your dead.”

Genesis 27:31

27:31 He also prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father. Esau ⁴  said to him, “My father, get up ⁵  and eat some of your son’s wild game. Then you can bless me.” ⁶ 

Genesis 30:14

30:14 At the time ⁷  of the wheat harvest Reuben went out and found some mandrake plants ⁸  in a field and brought them to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, “Give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”

[23:11]  ¹ tn Heb “give.” The perfect tense has here a present nuance; this is a formal, legally binding declaration. Abraham asked only for a burial site/cave within the field; Ephron agrees to sell him the entire field.

[23:11]  ² tn The Hebrew text adds “to you I give [i.e., sell] it.” This is redundant in English and has not been translated for stylistic reasons.

[23:11]  ³ tn Heb “in the presence of the sons of my people.”

[27:31]  ⁴ tn Heb “and he said to his father”; the referent of “he” (Esau) has been specified in the translation for clarity, while the words “his father” have been replaced by the pronoun “him” for stylistic reasons.
