Context23:9 if he will sell 1 me the cave of Machpelah that belongs to him; it is at the end of his field. Let him sell it to me publicly 2 for the full price, 3 so that I may own it as a burial site.”
Genesis 23:19
Context23:19 After this Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave in the field of Machpelah next to Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.
Genesis 25:9
Context25:9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah 4 near Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar, the Hethite.
Genesis 49:30
Context49:30 It is the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought for a burial plot from Ephron the Hittite.
Genesis 50:13
Context50:13 His sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, near Mamre. This is the field Abraham purchased as a burial plot from Ephron the Hittite.


[23:9] 1 tn Heb “give.” This is used here (also a second time later in this verse) as an idiom for “sell”; see the note on the word “grant” in v. 4.
[23:9] 2 tn Heb “in your presence.”
[25:9] 4 sn The cave of Machpelah was the place Abraham had purchased as a burial place for his wife Sarah (Gen 23:17-18).
