Genesis 27:38

27:38 Esau said to his father, “Do you have only that one blessing, my father? Bless me too!” ¹  Then Esau wept loudly. ² 

Genesis 44:22

44:22 We said to my lord, ‘The boy cannot leave his father. If he leaves his father, his father ³  will die.’ ⁴ 

[27:38]  ¹ tn Heb “Bless me, me also, my father.” The words “my father” have not been repeated in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[27:38]  ² tn Heb “and Esau lifted his voice and wept.”

[44:22]  ³ tn Heb “he”; the referent (the boy’s father, i.e., Jacob) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[44:22]  ⁴ tn The last two verbs are perfect tenses with vav consecutive. The first is subordinated to the second as a conditional clause.
