Genesis 29:10

29:10 When Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of his uncle Laban, ¹  and the sheep of his uncle Laban, he ²  went over ³  and rolled the stone off the mouth of the well and watered the sheep of his uncle Laban. ⁴

Genesis 27:13-14

27:13 So his mother told him, “Any curse against you will fall on me, ⁷  my son! Just obey me! ⁸  Go and get them for me!”

27:14 So he went and got the goats ⁹  and brought them to his mother. She ¹⁰  prepared some tasty food, just the way his father loved it.

Genesis 28:7

28:7 Jacob obeyed his father and mother and left for Paddan Aram.

[29:10]  ² tn Heb “Jacob.” The proper name has been replaced by the pronoun (“he”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[29:10]  ³ tn Heb “drew near, approached.”

[29:10]  ⁴ tn Heb “Laban, the brother of his mother.” The text says nothing initially about the beauty of Rachel. But the reader is struck by the repetition of “Laban the brother of his mother.” G. J. Wenham is no doubt correct when he observes that Jacob’s primary motive at this stage is to ingratiate himself with Laban (Genesis [WBC], 2:231).

[21:21]  ⁵ sn The wilderness of Paran is an area in the east central region of the Sinai peninsula, northeast from the traditional site of Mt. Sinai and with the Arabah and the Gulf of Aqaba as its eastern border.

[21:21]  ⁶ tn Heb “And his mother took for him a wife from the land of Egypt.”

[27:13]  ⁹ tn Heb “upon me your curse.”

[27:13]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “only listen to my voice.”

[27:14]  ¹³ tn The words “the goats” are not in the Hebrew text, but are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[27:14]  ¹⁴ tn Heb “his mother.” This has been replaced by the pronoun “she” in the translation for stylistic reasons.
