Genesis 31:40

31:40 I was consumed by scorching heat ¹  during the day and by piercing cold ²  at night, and I went without sleep. ³

[31:40]  ² tn Heb “frost, ice,” though when contrasted with the חֹרֶב (khorev, “drought, parching heat”) of the day, “piercing cold” is more appropriate as a contrast.

[31:40]  ³ tn Heb “and my sleep fled from my eyes.”

[31:26]  ⁴ tn Heb “and you have stolen my heart.” This expression apparently means “to deceive” (see v. 20).

[31:26]  ⁵ tn Heb “and you have led away my daughters like captives of a sword.”
