Genesis 31:7

31:7 but your father has humiliated ¹  me and changed my wages ten times. But God has not permitted him to do me any harm.

Genesis 9:2

9:2 Every living creature of the earth and every bird of the sky will be terrified of you. ²  Everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea are under your authority. ³ 

[31:7]  ¹ tn This rare verb means “to make a fool of” someone. It involves deceiving someone so that their public reputation suffers (see Exod 8:25).

[9:2]  ² tn Heb “and fear of you and dread of you will be upon every living creature of the earth and upon every bird of the sky.” The suffixes on the nouns “fear” and “dread” are objective genitives. The animals will fear humans from this time forward.

[9:2]  ³ tn Heb “into your hand are given.” The “hand” signifies power. To say the animals have been given into the hands of humans means humans have been given authority over them.
