[38:19]  1 tn Heb “and she arose and left,” the first verb in the pair emphasizing that she wasted no time.

[38:14]  2 tn The Hebrew text simply has “because,” connecting this sentence to what precedes. For stylistic reasons the words “she did this” are supplied in the translation and a new sentence begun.

[38:14]  3 tn Heb “she saw that Shelah had grown up, but she was not given to him as a wife.”

[41:42]  3 tn The Hebrew word שֵׁשׁ (shesh) is an Egyptian loanword that describes the fine linen robes that Egyptian royalty wore. The clothing signified Joseph’s rank.
