[39:4]  1 sn The Hebrew verb translated became his personal attendant refers to higher domestic service, usually along the lines of a personal attendant. Here Joseph is made the household steward, a position well-attested in Egyptian literature.

[39:4]  2 tn Heb “him”; the referent (Joseph) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[39:4]  3 tn Heb “put into his hand.”

[39:8]  4 tn Heb “and he said.”

[39:8]  5 tn Heb “know.”

[39:8]  6 tn The word “here” has been supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[39:8]  7 tn Heb “hand.” This is a metonymy for being under the control or care of Joseph.

[39:23]  8 tn Heb “was not looking at anything.”

[39:23]  9 tn Heb “his”; the referent (Joseph) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[16:10]  10 sn The point of the statement faithful in a very little is that character is shown in how little things are treated.

[19:17]  11 tn Grk “he”; the referent (the nobleman of v. 12, now a king) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[19:17]  12 tn See Luke 16:10.

[19:17]  13 sn The faithful slave received expanded responsibility (authority over ten cities) as a result of his faithfulness; this in turn is an exhortation to faithfulness for the reader.
