Genesis 41:27

41:27 The seven lean, bad-looking cows that came up after them represent seven years, as do the seven empty heads of grain burned with the east wind. They represent ¹  seven years of famine.

Genesis 41:31

41:31 The previous abundance of the land will not be remembered ²  because of the famine that follows, for the famine will be very severe. ³ 

Genesis 41:50

41:50 Two sons were born to Joseph before the famine came. ⁴  Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, was their mother. ⁵ 

Genesis 45:6

45:6 For these past two years there has been famine in ⁶  the land and for five more years there will be neither plowing nor harvesting.

Genesis 45:11

45:11 I will provide you with food ⁷  there because there will be five more years of famine. Otherwise you would become poor – you, your household, and everyone who belongs to you.”’

[41:27]  ¹ tn Heb “are.” Another option is to translate, “There will be seven years of famine.”

[41:31]  ² tn Heb “known.”

[41:31]  ³ tn Or “heavy.”

[41:50]  ³ tn Heb “before the year of the famine came.”

[41:50]  ⁴ tn Heb “gave birth for him.”

[45:6]  ⁴ tn Heb “the famine [has been] in the midst of.”

[45:11]  ⁵ tn The verb כּוּל (kul) in the Pilpel stem means “to nourish, to support, to sustain.” As in 1 Kgs 20:27, it here means “to supply with food.”
