Genesis 41:43

41:43 Pharaoh ¹  had him ride in the chariot used by his second-in-command, ²  and they cried out before him, “Kneel down!” ³  So he placed him over all the land of Egypt.

Genesis 43:12

43:12 Take double the money with you; ⁴  you must take back ⁵  the money that was returned in the mouths of your sacks – perhaps it was an oversight.

Genesis 43:15

43:15 So the men took these gifts, and they took double the money with them, along with Benjamin. Then they hurried down to Egypt ⁶  and stood before Joseph.

[41:43]  ¹ tn Heb “he”; the referent (Pharaoh) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[41:43]  ² tn Heb “and he caused him to ride in the second chariot which was his.”

[41:43]  ³ tn The verb form appears to be a causative imperative from a verbal root meaning “to kneel.” It is a homonym of the word “bless” (identical in root letters but not related etymologically).

[43:12]  ⁴ tn Heb “in your hand.”

[43:12]  ⁵ tn Heb “take back in your hand.” The imperfect verbal form probably has an injunctive or obligatory force here, since Jacob is instructing his sons.

[43:15]  ⁷ tn Heb “they arose and went down to Egypt.” The first verb has an adverbial function and emphasizes that they departed right away.
