[45:1]  1 tn Heb “all the ones standing beside him.”

[45:1]  2 tn Heb “stood.”

[42:14]  3 tn Heb “silent” (so NASB, NIV, TEV, NLT); CEV “have held my temper.”

[42:14]  4 sn The imagery depicts the Lord as a warrior who is eager to fight and can no longer hold himself back from the attack.

[31:16]  5 tn The words “to her” are not in the text but are implicit from the context. They are supplied in the translation for clarity.

[31:16]  6 tn Heb “Refrain your voice from crying and your eyes from tears.”

[31:16]  7 tn Heb “your work.” Contextually her “work” refers to her weeping and refusing to be comforted, that is, signs of genuine repentance (v. 15).

[31:16]  8 tn Heb “Oracle of the Lord.”

[31:1]  9 sn This verse repeats v. 22 but with specific reference to all the clans of Israel, i.e., to all Israel and Judah. It functions here as a transition to the next section which will deal with the restoration of Israel (31:3-20) and Judah (31:21-25) and their reunification in the land (31:27-29) under a new covenant relation with God (31:31-37). See also the study note on 30:3 for further reference to this reunification in Jeremiah and the other prophets.

[31:1]  10 tn Heb “Oracle of the Lord.”

[3:10]  11 tn Heb “And even in all this.”

[3:10]  12 tn Heb “ has not turned back to me with all her heart but only in falsehood.”
