[12:20]  1 tn Heb “him”; the referent (Abram) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[15:14]  1 tn The participle דָּן (dan, from דִּין, din) is used here for the future: “I am judging” = “I will surely judge.” The judgment in this case will be condemnation and punishment. The translation “execute judgment on” implies that the judgment will certainly be carried out.

[37:23]  1 tn Heb “Joseph”; the proper name has been replaced by the pronoun (“him”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[39:7]  1 tn Heb “she lifted up her eyes toward,” an expression that emphasizes her deliberate and careful scrutiny of him.

[39:7]  2 tn Heb “lie with me.” Here the expression “lie with” is a euphemism for sexual intercourse.

[41:11]  1 tn Heb “and we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he, each according to the interpretation of his dream we dreamed.”

[48:2]  1 tn Heb “and one told and said.” The verbs have no expressed subject and can be translated with the passive voice.

[48:2]  2 tn Heb “Look, your son Joseph.”
