Genesis 7:4

7:4 For in seven days ¹  I will cause it to rain ²  on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the ground every living thing that I have made.”

Genesis 41:48

41:48 Joseph ³  collected all the excess food ⁴  in the land of Egypt during the seven years and stored it in the cities. ⁵  In every city he put the food gathered from the fields around it.

Genesis 50:10

50:10 When they came to the threshing floor of Atad ⁶  on the other side of the Jordan, they mourned there with very great and bitter sorrow. ⁷  There Joseph observed a seven day period of mourning for his father.

[7:4]  ¹ tn Heb “for seven days yet,” meaning “after [or “in”] seven days.”

[7:4]  ² tn The Hiphil participle מַמְטִיר (mamtir, “cause to rain”) here expresses the certainty of the act in the imminent future.

[41:48]  ³ tn Heb “he”; the referent (Joseph) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[41:48]  ⁴ tn Heb “all the food.”

[41:48]  ⁵ tn Heb “of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt and placed food in the cities.”

[50:10]  ⁵ sn The location of the threshing floor of Atad is not certain. The expression the other side of the Jordan could refer to the eastern or western bank, depending on one’s perspective. However, it is commonly used in the OT for Transjordan. This would suggest that the entourage came up the Jordan Valley and crossed into the land at Jericho, just as the Israelites would in the time of Joshua.

[50:10]  ⁶ tn Heb “and they mourned there [with] very great and heavy mourning.” The cognate accusative, as well as the two adjectives and the adverb, emphasize the degree of their sorrow.
