Genesis 8:17

8:17 Bring out with you all the living creatures that are with you. Bring out ¹  every living thing, including the birds, animals, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. Let them increase ²  and be fruitful and multiply on the earth!” ³ 

Genesis 47:4

47:4 Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live as temporary residents ⁴  in the land. There ⁵  is no pasture for your servants’ flocks because the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. So now, please let your servants live in the land of Goshen.”

Genesis 47:6

47:6 The land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best region of the land. They may live in the land of Goshen. If you know of any highly capable men ⁶  among them, put them in charge ⁷  of my livestock.”

[8:17]  ¹ tn The words “bring out” are not in the Hebrew text, but are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[8:17]  ² tn Following the Hiphil imperative, “bring out,” the three perfect verb forms with vav (ו) consecutive carry an imperatival nuance. [8:17]  ³ tn Heb “and let them swarm in the earth and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.”

[47:4]  ⁴ tn Heb “to sojourn.”

[47:4]  ⁵ tn Heb “for there.” The Hebrew uses a causal particle to connect what follows with what precedes. The translation divides the statement into two sentences for stylistic reasons.

[47:6]  ⁷ tn Heb “men of skill.”

[47:6]  ⁸ tn Heb “make them rulers.”
