Genesis 8:5

8:5 The waters kept on receding ¹  until the tenth month. On the first day of the tenth month, the tops of the mountains became visible. ² 

Genesis 31:54

31:54 Then Jacob offered a sacrifice ³  on the mountain and invited his relatives to eat the meal. ⁴  They ate the meal and spent the night on the mountain.

[8:5]  ¹ tn Heb “the waters were going and lessening.” The perfect verb form הָיָה (hayah) is used as an auxiliary verb with the infinitive absolute חָסוֹר (khasor, “lessening”), while the infinitive absolute הָלוֹךְ (halokh) indicates continuous action.

[8:5]  ² tn Or “could be seen.”

[31:54]  ³ tn The construction is a cognate accusative with the verb, expressing a specific sacrifice.

[31:54]  ⁴ tn Heb “bread, food.” Presumably this was a type of peace offering, where the person bringing the offering ate the animal being sacrificed.
