Genesis 9:16
Context9:16 When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will notice it and remember 1 the perpetual covenant between God and all living creatures of all kinds that are on the earth.”
Genesis 42:9
Context42:9 Then Joseph remembered 2 the dreams he had dreamed about them, and he said to them, “You are spies; you have come to see if our land is vulnerable!” 3

[9:16] 1 tn The translation assumes that the infinitive לִזְכֹּר (lizkor, “to remember”) here expresses the result of seeing the rainbow. Another option is to understand it as indicating purpose, in which case it could be translated, “I will look at it so that I may remember.”
[42:9] 2 sn You are spies. Joseph wanted to see how his brothers would react if they were accused of spying.
[42:9] 3 tn Heb “to see the nakedness of the land you have come.”
