God’s Promised Rest

4:1 Therefore we must be wary ¹  that, while the promise of entering his rest remains open, none of you may seem to have come short of it.

Hebrews 6:12

6:12 so that you may not be sluggish, ²  but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises.

Hebrews 12:22

12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion, the city ³  of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the assembly

[12:22]  ³ tn Grk “and the city”; the conjunction is omitted in translation since it seems to be functioning epexegetically – that is, explaining further what is meant by “Mount Zion.”
