Hosea 9:2

9:2 Threshing floors and wine vats will not feed the people, ¹ 

and new wine only deceives them. ² 

Hosea 4:3

4:3 Therefore the land will mourn,

and all its inhabitants will perish. ³ 

The wild animals, ⁴  the birds of the sky,

and even the fish in the sea will perish.

[9:2]  ¹ tn Heb “them”; the referent (the people) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[9:2]  ² tn Heb “her” (so KJV, ASV). This is taken as a collective singular (so also most modern English versions).

[4:3]  ³ tn Or “languish” (so KJV, NRSV); NIV “waste away.”

[4:3]  ⁴ tn Heb “the beasts of the field” (so NAB, NIV).
