Isaiah 1:6

1:6 From the soles of your feet to your head,

there is no spot that is unharmed. ¹ 

There are only bruises, cuts,

and open wounds.

They have not been cleansed ²  or bandaged,

nor have they been treated ³  with olive oil. ⁴ 

Isaiah 3:9

3:9 The look on their faces ⁵  testifies to their guilt; ⁶ 

like the people of Sodom they openly boast of their sin. ⁷ 

Too bad for them! ⁸ 

For they bring disaster on themselves.

[1:6]  ⁴ sn This verse describes wounds like those one would receive in battle. These wounds are comprehensive and without remedy.

[3:9]  ⁵ sn This refers to their proud, arrogant demeanor.

[3:9]  ⁶ tn Heb “answers against them”; NRSV “bears witness against them.”

[3:9]  ⁷ tn Heb “their sin, like Sodom, they declare, they do not conceal [it].”
