Isaiah 12:4

12:4 At that time ¹  you will say:

“Praise the Lord!

Ask him for help! ² 

Publicize his mighty acts among the nations!

Make it known that he is unique! ³ 

Isaiah 44:5

44:5 One will say, ‘I belong to the Lord,’

and another will use ⁴  the name ‘Jacob.’

One will write on his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’

and use the name ‘Israel.’” ⁵ 

Isaiah 56:5

56:5 I will set up within my temple and my walls a monument ⁶ 

that will be better than sons and daughters.

I will set up a permanent monument ⁷  for them that will remain.

[12:4]  ² tn Heb “call in his name,” i.e., “invoke his name.”

[12:4]  ³ tn Heb “bring to remembrance that his name is exalted.” The Lord’s “name” stands here for his character and reputation.

[44:5]  ⁴ tn The Hebrew text has a Qal verb form, “and another will call by the name of Jacob.” With support from Symmachus (an ancient Greek textual witness), some read the Niphal, “and another will be called by the name of Jacob.”

[44:5]  ⁵ tn Heb “and by the name of Israel he will title.” Some, with support from several ancient versions, prefer to change the Piel (active) verb form to a Pual (passive), “and he will be titled by the name of Israel.”
