Isaiah 13:9

13:9 Look, the Lord’s day of judgment ¹  is coming;

it is a day of cruelty and savage, raging anger, ² 

destroying ³  the earth ⁴ 

and annihilating its sinners.

Isaiah 37:19

37:19 They have burned the gods of the nations, ⁵  for they are not really gods, but only the product of human hands manufactured from wood and stone. That is why the Assyrians could destroy them. ⁶ 

Isaiah 43:17

43:17 the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, ⁷ 

together with a mighty army.

They fell down, ⁸  never to rise again;

they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick:

or fire makes water boil,

let your adversaries know who you are, ⁹ 

and may the nations shake at your presence!

[13:9]  ² tn Heb “[with] cruelty, and fury, and rage of anger.” Three synonyms for “anger” are piled up at the end of the line to emphasize the extraordinary degree of divine anger that will be exhibited in this judgment.

[43:17]  ⁹ tn Heb “led out chariots and horses.” The words “to destruction” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The verse refers to the destruction of the Egyptians at the Red Sea.
