[14:11]  1 tn Or “pride” (NCV, CEV); KJV, NIV, NRSV “pomp.”

[14:11]  2 tn Or “harps” (NAB, NIV, NRSV).

[14:11]  3 tn Heb “under you maggots are spread out, and worms are your cover.”

[30:2]  4 tn Heb “those who go to descend to Egypt, but [of] my mouth they do not inquire.”

[30:2]  5 tn Heb “to seek protection in the protection of Pharaoh, and to seek refuge in the shade of Egypt.”

[34:5]  7 tn The words “he says” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The Lord speaks at this point.

[34:5]  8 tn Heb “indeed [or “for”] my sword is drenched in the heavens.” The Qumran scroll 1QIsaa has תראה (“[my sword] appeared [in the heavens]”), but this is apparently an attempt to make sense out of a difficult metaphor. Cf. NIV “My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens.”

[34:5]  9 sn Edom is mentioned here as epitomizing the hostile nations that oppose God.

[34:7]  10 tn Heb “will go down”; NAB “shall be struck down.”

[34:7]  11 tn Heb “and bulls along with strong ones.” Perhaps this refers to the leaders.

[38:18]  13 tn Or “For” (KJV, NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT).

[38:18]  14 tn The negative particle is understood by ellipsis in this line. See GKC 483 §152.z.

[42:10]  16 tn Heb “his praise.” The phrase stands parallel to “new song” in the previous line.

[42:10]  17 tn Heb “and its fullness”; NASB, NIV “and all that is in it.”

[42:10]  18 tn Or “islands” (NASB, NIV); NLT “distant coastlands.”

[64:3]  19 tn Heb “[for which] we were not waiting.”

[64:3]  20 tn See the note at v. 1.
