14:26 This is the plan I have devised for the whole earth;

my hand is ready to strike all the nations.” ¹ 

Isaiah 34:3

34:3 Their slain will be left unburied, ² 

their corpses will stink; ³ 

the hills will soak up their blood. ⁴ 

Isaiah 42:7

42:7 to open blind eyes, ⁵ 

to release prisoners ⁶  from dungeons,

those who live in darkness from prisons.

Isaiah 54:2

54:2 Make your tent larger,

stretch your tent curtains farther out! ⁷ 

Spare no effort,

lengthen your ropes,

and pound your stakes deep. ⁸ 

[14:26]  ¹ tn Heb “and this is the hand that is outstretched over all the nations.”

[34:3]  ² tn Heb “will be cast aside”; NASB, NIV “thrown out.”

[34:3]  ³ tn Heb “[as for] their corpses, their stench will arise.”

[34:3]  ⁴ tn Heb “hills will dissolve from their blood.”

[42:7]  ³ sn This does not refer to literal physical healing of the blind. As the next two lines suggest, this refers metonymically to freeing captives from their dark prisons where their eyes have grown unaccustomed to light.

[42:7]  ⁴ sn This does not refer to hardened, dangerous criminals, who would have been executed for their crimes in ancient Near Eastern society. This verse refers to political prisoners or victims of social injustice.

[54:2]  ⁴ tn Heb “the curtains of our dwelling places let them stretch out.”

[54:2]  ⁵ tn Heb “your stakes strengthen.”
