Isaiah 15:9

Context

15:9 Indeed, the waters of Dimon 1  are full of blood!

Indeed, I will heap even more trouble on Dimon. 2 

A lion will attack 3  the Moabite fugitives

and the people left in the land.

Isaiah 59:7

Context

59:7 They are eager to do evil, 4 

quick to shed innocent blood. 5 

Their thoughts are sinful;

they crush and destroy. 6 

Isaiah 34:6

Context

34:6 The Lord’s sword is dripping with blood,

it is covered 7  with fat;

it drips 8  with the blood of young rams and goats

and is covered 9  with the fat of rams’ kidneys.

For the Lord is holding a sacrifice 10  in Bozrah, 11 

a bloody 12  slaughter in the land of Edom.

Isaiah 66:3

Context

66:3 The one who slaughters a bull also strikes down a man; 13 

the one who sacrifices a lamb also breaks a dog’s neck; 14 

the one who presents an offering includes pig’s blood with it; 15 

the one who offers incense also praises an idol. 16 

They have decided to behave this way; 17 

they enjoy these disgusting practices. 18

[15:9]  1 tc The Qumran scroll 1QIsaa reads “Dibon” instead of “Dimon” in this verse.

The translation above assumes that the language is not metaphorical, but descriptive of the sinners’ hypocritical behavior. (Note the last two lines of the verse, which suggests they are guilty of abominable practices.) On the one hand, they act pious and offer sacrifices; but at the same time they commit violent crimes against men, defile their sacrifices, and worship other gods.
