Isaiah 16:14

16:14 Now the Lord makes this announcement: “Within exactly three years ¹  Moab’s splendor will disappear, along with all her many people; there will be just a few, insignificant survivors left.” ²

21:16 For this is what the sovereign master ³  has told me: “Within exactly one year ⁴  all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end.

Luke 17:7-8

17:7 “Would any one of you say ⁵  to your slave ⁶  who comes in from the field after plowing or shepherding sheep, ‘Come at once and sit down for a meal’? ⁷  17:8 Won’t ⁸  the master ⁹  instead say to him, ‘Get my dinner ready, and make yourself ready ¹⁰  to serve me while ¹¹  I eat and drink. Then ¹²  you may eat and drink’?

[16:14]  ¹ tn Heb “in three years, like the years of a hired worker.” The three years must be reckoned exactly, just as a hired worker would carefully keep track of the time he had agreed to work for an employer in exchange for a predetermined wage.

[16:14]  ² tn Heb “and the splendor of Moab will be disgraced with all the great multitude, and a small little remnant will not be strong.”

[21:16]  ³ tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).
