Isaiah 22:18
Context22:18 He will wind you up tightly into a ball
and throw you into a wide, open land. 1
There you will die,
and there with you will be your impressive chariots, 2
which bring disgrace to the house of your master. 3
Isaiah 33:21
Context33:21 Instead the Lord will rule there as our mighty king. 4
Rivers and wide streams will flow through it; 5
no war galley will enter; 6
no large ships will sail through. 7
[22:18] 1 tn Heb “and he will tightly [or “surely”] wind you [with] winding like a ball, to a land broad of hands [i.e., “sides”].”
[22:18] 2 tn Heb “and there the chariots of your splendor.”
[22:18] 3 sn Apparently the reference to chariots alludes to Shebna’s excessive pride, which in turn brings disgrace to the royal family.
[33:21] 4 tn Heb “But there [as] a mighty one [will be] the Lord for us.”
[33:21] 5 tn Heb “a place of rivers, streams wide of hands [i.e., on both sides].”
[33:21] 6 tn Heb “a ship of rowing will not go into it.”
[33:21] 7 tn Heb “and a mighty ship will not pass through it.”
