Isaiah 22:7

22:7 Your very best valleys were full of chariots; ¹ 

horsemen confidently took their positions ²  at the gate.

Isaiah 43:17

43:17 the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, ³ 

together with a mighty army.

They fell down, ⁴  never to rise again;

they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick:

[22:7]  ¹ tn The verb that introduces this verse serves as a discourse particle and is untranslated; see note on “in the future” in 2:2.

[22:7]  ² tn Heb “taking a stand, take their stand.” The infinitive absolute emphasizes the following finite verb. The translation attempts to bring out this emphasis with the adverb “confidently.”

[43:17]  ³ tn Heb “led out chariots and horses.” The words “to destruction” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The verse refers to the destruction of the Egyptians at the Red Sea.
