[23:8]  1 tn The precise meaning of הַמַּעֲטִירָה (hammaatirah) is uncertain. The form is a Hiphil participle from עָטַר (’atar), a denominative verb derived from עֲטָרָה (’atarah, “crown, wreath”). The participle may mean “one who wears a crown” or “one who distributes crowns.” In either case, Tyre’s prominence in the international political arena is in view.

[23:8]  2 tn Heb “the honored” (so NASB, NRSV); NIV “renowned.”

[47:15]  3 tn Heb “So they will be to you”; NIV “That is all they can do for you.”

[47:15]  4 tn Heb “that for which you toiled, your traders from your youth.” The omen readers and star gazers are likened to merchants with whom Babylon has had an ongoing economic relationship.

[47:15]  5 tn Heb “each to his own side, they err.”
