Isaiah 25:10

Context

25:10 For the Lord’s power will make this mountain secure. 1

Moab will be trampled down where it stands, 2

as a heap of straw is trampled down in 3  a manure pile.

Isaiah 46:7

Context

46:7 They put it on their shoulder and carry it;

they put it in its place and it just stands there;

it does not 4  move from its place.

Even when someone cries out to it, it does not reply;

it does not deliver him from his distress.

Isaiah 37:38

Context
37:38 One day, 5  as he was worshiping 6  in the temple of his god Nisroch, 7  his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword. 8  They ran away to the land of Ararat; his son Esarhaddon replaced him as king.

[25:10]  1 tn Heb “for the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain”; TEV “will protect Mount Zion”; NCV “will protect (rest on NLT) Jerusalem.”

[25:10]  2 tn Heb “under him,” i.e., “in his place.”

[25:10]  3 tc The marginal reading (Qere) is בְּמוֹ (bÿmo, “in”). The consonantal text (Kethib) has בְּמִי (bÿmi, “in the water of”).

[46:7]  4 tn Or perhaps, “cannot,” here and in the following two lines. The imperfect forms can indicate capability.

[37:38]  7 sn The assassination of King Sennacherib probably took place in 681 b.c.

[37:38]  8 tn The verb that introduces this verse serves as a discourse particle and is untranslated; see note on “in the future” in 2:2.

[37:38]  9 sn No such Mesopotamian god is presently known. Perhaps the name Nisroch is a corruption of Nusku.

[37:38]  10 sn Extra-biblical sources also mention the assassination of Sennacherib, though they refer to only one assassin. See M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 239-40.
