Isaiah 25:12

25:12 The fortified city (along with the very tops of your ¹  walls) ²  he will knock down,

he will bring it down, he will throw it down to the dusty ground. ³ 

Isaiah 34:13

34:13 Her fortresses will be overgrown with thorns;

thickets and weeds will grow ⁴  in her fortified cities.

Jackals will settle there;

ostriches will live there. ⁵ 

Isaiah 17:3

17:3 Fortified cities will disappear from Ephraim,

and Damascus will lose its kingdom. ⁶ 

The survivors in Syria

[25:12]  ² tn Heb “a fortification, the high point of your walls.”

[25:12]  ³ tn Heb “he will bring [it] down, he will make [it] touch the ground, even to the dust.”

[34:13]  ⁴ tn The words “will grow” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[34:13]  ⁵ tc Heb “and she will be a settlement for wild dogs, a dwelling place for ostriches.” The translation assumes an emendation of חָצִיר (khatsir, “grass”) to חָצֵר (khatser, “settlement”). One of the Qumran scrolls of Isaiah (1QIsa^a) supports this emendation (cf. HALOT 344 s.v. II חָצִיר)
