  Now to the Lord a noble song! Awake, my soul; awake, my tongue; Hosanna to th’eternal Name, And all His boundless love proclaim. See where it shines in Jesus’ face, The brightest image of His grace; God, in the person of His Son, Has all His mightiest works outdone. The spacious earth and spreading flood Proclaim the wise and powerful God; And thy rich glories from afar Sparkle in every rolling star. But in His looks a glory stands, The noblest labor of thine hands; The pleasing luster of His eyes Outshines the wonders of the skies. Grace! ‘tis a sweet, a charming theme; My thoughts rejoice at Jesus’ Name: Ye angels, dwell upon the sound! Ye heav’ns, reflect it to the ground! O may I live to reach the place Where he unveils His lovely face! Where all His beauties you behold, And sing His Name to harps of gold!

  With Christ we share a mystic grave, With Christ we buried lie; But ’tis not in the darksome cave By mournful Calvary. The pure and bright baptismal flood Entombs our nature’s stain; New creatures from the cleansing wave With Christ we rise again. Thrice blest, if through this world of strife, And sin, and selfish care, Our snow white robe of righteousness We undefilèd wear. Thrice blest, if through the gate of death All glorious and free We to our joyful rising pass, O risen Lord, with Thee.

• [Isa 26:20] See The Gloomy Gathering Cloud

  See the gloomy gathering cloud Hanging o’er a sinful land! Sure the Lord proclaims aloud, Times of trouble are at hand: Happy they, who love His Name! They shall always find Him near; Though the earth were wrapped in flame, They have no just cause for fear. Hark! His voice in accents mild, O, how comforting and sweet! Speaks to every humble child, Pointing out a sure retreat! Come, and in My chambers hide, To My saints of old well known; There you safely may abide, Till the storm be overblown. You have only to repose On My wisdom, love, and care; Where My wrath consumes my foes, Mercy shall My children spare: While they perish in the flood, You that bear My holy mark, Sprinkled with atoning blood, Shall be safe within the ark. Sinners, see the ark prepared! Haste to enter while there’s room; Though the Lord His arm has bared, Mercy still retards your doom: Seek Him while there yet is hope, Ere the day of grace be past; Lest in wrath He give you up, And this call should prove your last.
