Isaiah 26:21

Context

26:21 For look, the Lord is coming out of the place where he lives, 1 

to punish the sin of those who live on the earth.

The earth will display the blood shed on it;

it will no longer cover up its slain. 2

37:16 “O Lord who commands armies, O God of Israel, who is enthroned on the cherubim! 3  You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the sky 4  and the earth.

[26:21]  1 tn Heb “out of his place” (so KJV, ASV).

[26:21]  2 sn This implies that rampant bloodshed is one of the reasons for divine judgment. See the note at 24:5.

[37:16]  3 sn Cherubim (singular “cherub”) refers to the images of winged angelic creatures that were above the ark of the covenant.

[37:16]  4 tn Or “the heavens.” The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heavens” or “sky” depending on the context.
