Isaiah 29:10

29:10 For the Lord has poured out on you

a strong urge to sleep deeply. ¹ 

He has shut your eyes (the prophets),

and covered your heads (the seers).

Isaiah 30:10

30:10 They ²  say to the visionaries, “See no more visions!”

and to the seers, “Don’t relate messages to us about what is right! ³ 

Tell us nice things,

relate deceptive messages. ⁴ 

Isaiah 47:13

47:13 You are tired out from listening to so much advice. ⁵ 

Let them take their stand –

the ones who see omens in the sky,

who gaze at the stars,

who make monthly predictions –

let them rescue you from the disaster that is about to overtake you! ⁶ 

[29:10]  ¹ tn Heb “a disposition [or “spirit”] of deep sleep.” Through this mixed metaphor (sleep is likened to a liquid which one pours and in turn symbolizes spiritual dullness) the prophet emphasizes that God himself has given the people over to their spiritual insensitivity as a form of judgment.

[30:10]  ² tn Heb “who” (so NASB, NRSV). A new sentence was started here in the translation for stylistic reasons.
