3:25 Your 1  men will fall by the sword,

your strong men will die in battle. 2

27:4 I am not angry.

I wish I could confront some thorns and briers!

[3:25]  1 tn The pronoun is feminine singular, suggesting personified Zion, as representative of its women, is the addressee. The reference to “her gates’ in v. 26 makes this identification almost certain.

[3:25]  2 tn Heb “your strength in battle.” The verb in the first clause provides the verbal idea for the second clause.

[27:4]  3 tn Heb “it.” The feminine singular suffix apparently refers back to the expression “thorns and briers,” understood in a collective sense. For other examples of a cohortative expressing resolve after a hypothetical statement introduced by נָתַן with מִי (miwith natan), see Judg 9:29; Jer 9:1-2; Ps 55:6.
