Isaiah 3:5

3:5 The people will treat each other harshly;

men will oppose each other;

neighbors will fight. ¹ 

Youths will proudly defy the elderly

and riffraff will challenge those who were once respected. ² 

Isaiah 5:3

5:3 So now, residents of Jerusalem, ³ 

people ⁴  of Judah,

you decide between me and my vineyard!

Isaiah 19:2

19:2 “I will provoke civil strife in Egypt, ⁵ 

brothers will fight with each other,

as will neighbors,

cities, and kingdoms. ⁶

[3:5]  ² tn Heb “and those lightly esteemed those who are respected.” The verb רָהַב (rahav) does double duty in the parallelism.

[19:2]  ⁵ tn Heb I will provoke Egypt against Egypt” (NAB similar).

[19:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “and they will fight, a man against his brother, and a man against his neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.” Civil strife will extend all the way from the domestic level to the provincial arena.
