Isaiah 33:23

33:23 Though at this time your ropes are slack, ¹ 

the mast is not secured, ² 

and the sail ³  is not unfurled,

at that time you will divide up a great quantity of loot; ⁴ 

even the lame will drag off plunder. ⁵ 

Isaiah 35:6

35:6 Then the lame will leap like a deer,

the mute tongue will shout for joy;

for water will flow ⁶  in the desert,

streams in the wilderness. ⁷ 

Isaiah 58:8-9

58:8 Then your light will shine like the sunrise; ⁸ 

your restoration will quickly arrive; ⁹ 

your godly behavior ¹⁰  will go before you,

and the Lord’s splendor will be your rear guard. ¹¹ 

58:9 Then you will call out, and the Lord will respond;

you will cry out, and he will reply, ‘Here I am.’

You must ¹²  remove the burdensome yoke from among you

and stop pointing fingers and speaking sinfully.

Isaiah 58:14

58:14 Then you will find joy in your relationship to the Lord, ¹³ 

and I will give you great prosperity, ¹⁴ 

and cause crops to grow on the land I gave to your ancestor Jacob.” ¹⁵ 

Know for certain that the Lord has spoken. ¹⁶ 

Isaiah 60:5

60:5 Then you will look and smile, ¹⁷ 

you will be excited and your heart will swell with pride. ¹⁸ 

For the riches of distant lands ¹⁹  will belong to you

and the wealth of nations will come to you.

[33:23]  ¹ tn The words “though at this time” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The first half of the verse is addressed to Judah and contrasts the nation’s present weakness with its future prosperity. Judah is compared to a ship that is incapable of sailing.

[58:14]  ²³ tn Heb “and I will cause you to eat the inheritance of Jacob your father.” The Hebrew term נַחֲלָה (nakhalah) likely stands by metonymy for the crops that grow on Jacob’s “inheritance” (i.e., the land he inherited as a result of God’s promise).

[58:14]  ²⁴ tn Heb “for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” The introductory כִּי (ki) may be asseverative (as reflected in the translation) or causal/explanatory, explaining why the preceding promise will become reality (because it is guaranteed by the divine word).
