The Lord Will Judge Edom

34:1 Come near, you nations, and listen!

Pay attention, you people!

The earth and everything it contains must listen,

the world and everything that lives in it. 1

your beer is diluted with water. 4

[34:1]  1 tn Heb “the world and its offspring”; NASB “the world and all that springs from it.”

[1:22]  2 tn The pronoun is feminine singular; personified Jerusalem (see v. 21) is addressed.

[1:22]  3 tn Or “dross.” The word refers to the scum or impurites floating on the top of melted metal.

[1:22]  4 sn The metaphors of silver becoming impure and beer being watered down picture the moral and ethical degeneration that had occurred in Jerusalem.
