Isaiah 35:4

35:4 Tell those who panic, ¹ 

“Be strong! Do not fear!

Look, your God comes to avenge!

With divine retribution he comes to deliver you.” ²

Isaiah 57:11

57:11 Whom are you worried about?

Whom do you fear, that you would act so deceitfully

and not remember me

or think about me? ⁶ 

Because I have been silent for so long, ⁷ 

you are not afraid of me. ⁸ 

[35:4]  ¹ tn Heb “Say to the hasty of heart,” i.e., those whose hearts beat quickly from fear.

[35:4]  ² tn The jussive form וְיֹשַׁעֲכֶם (vÿyosha’akhem), which is subordinated to the preceding imperfect with vav conjunctive, indicates purpose.

[8:22]  ³ tn Heb “and behold” (so KJV, ASV, NASB).

[8:22]  ⁴ tn The precise meaning of מְעוּף (mÿ’uf) is uncertain; the word occurs only here. See BDB 734 s.v. מָעוּף.

[8:22]  ⁵ tn Heb “ and darkness, pushed.” The word מְנֻדָּח (mÿnudakh) appears to be a Pual participle from נדח (“push”), but the Piel is unattested for this verb and the Pual occurs only here.

[57:11]  ⁵ tn Heb “you do not place [it] on your heart.”

[57:11]  ⁶ tn Heb “Is it not [because] I have been silent, and from long ago?”

[57:11]  ⁷ sn God’s patience with sinful Israel has caused them to think that they can sin with impunity and suffer no consequences.
