Isaiah 36:22

36:22 Eliakim son of Hilkiah, the palace supervisor, accompanied by Shebna the scribe and Joah son of Asaph, the secretary, went to Hezekiah with their clothes torn in grief ¹  and reported to him what the chief adviser had said.

Isaiah 51:6

51:6 Look up at the sky!

Look at the earth below!

For the sky will dissipate ²  like smoke,

and the earth will wear out like clothes;

its residents will die like gnats.

But the deliverance I give ³  is permanent;

the vindication I provide ⁴  will not disappear. ⁵ 

Isaiah 52:1

52:1 Wake up! Wake up!

Clothe yourself with strength, O Zion!

Put on your beautiful clothes,

Isaiah 61:10

61:10 I ⁷  will greatly rejoice ⁸  in the Lord;

I will be overjoyed because of my God. ⁹ 

For he clothes me in garments of deliverance;

he puts on me a robe symbolizing vindication. ¹⁰ 

I look like a bridegroom when he wears a turban as a priest would;

I look like a bride when she puts on her jewelry. ¹¹ 

[36:22]  ¹ tn Heb “with their clothes torn”; the words “in grief” have been supplied in the translation to indicate that this was done as a sign of grief and mourning.

[51:6]  ² tn Heb “will be torn in pieces.” The perfect indicates the certitude of the event, from the Lord’s rhetorical perspective.
