Isaiah 41:20
Context41:20 I will do this so 1 people 2 will observe and recognize,
so they will pay attention and understand
that the Lord’s power 3 has accomplished this,
and that the Holy One of Israel has brought it into being.” 4
Isaiah 28:7
Context28:7 Even these men 5 stagger because of wine,
they stumble around because of beer –
priests and prophets stagger because of beer,
they are confused 6 because of wine,
they stumble around because of beer;
they stagger while seeing prophetic visions, 7
they totter while making legal decisions. 8
Isaiah 45:18
Context45:18 For this is what the Lord says,
the one who created the sky –
he is the true God, 9
the one who formed the earth and made it;
he established it,
he did not create it without order, 10
he formed it to be inhabited –
“I am the Lord, I have no peer.

[41:20] 1 tn The words “I will do this” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The Hebrew text has here simply, “in order that.”
[41:20] 2 tn Heb “they”; NAB, NRSV “that all may see”; CEV, NLT “Everyone will see.”
[41:20] 3 tn Heb “hand” (so KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV).
[41:20] 4 tn Or “created it” (KJV, NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV); TEV “has made it happen.”
[28:7] 5 tn Heb “these.” The demonstrative pronoun anticipates “priests and prophets” two lines later.
[28:7] 6 tn According to HALOT 135 s.v. III בלע, the verb form is derived from בָּלַע (bala’, “confuse”), not the more common בָּלַע (“swallow”). See earlier notes at 3:12 and 9:16.
[28:7] 7 tn Heb “in the seeing.”
[28:7] 8 tn Heb “[in] giving a decision.”
[45:18] 9 tn Heb “he [is] the God.” The article here indicates uniqueness.
[45:18] 10 tn Or “unformed.” Gen 1:2 describes the world as “unformed” (תֹהוּ, tohu) prior to God’s creative work, but God then formed the world and made it fit for habitation.
