Isaiah 45:17

45:17 Israel will be delivered once and for all by the Lord; ¹ 

you will never again be ashamed or humiliated. ² 

Isaiah 48:10

48:10 Look, I have refined you, but not as silver;

I have purified you ³  in the furnace of misery.

Isaiah 65:6

65:6 Look, I have decreed: ⁴ 

I will not keep silent, but will pay them back;

I will pay them back exactly what they deserve, ⁵

[45:17]  ² tn Heb “you will not be ashamed and you will not be humiliated for ages of future time.”

[48:10]  ³ tc The Hebrew text has בְּחַרְתִּיךָ (bÿkhartikha, “I have chosen you”), but the Qumran scroll 1QIsa^a reads correctly בחנתיכה (“I have tested you”). The metallurgical background of the imagery suggests that purification through testing is the idea.
