Isaiah 47:10

47:10 You were complacent in your evil deeds; ¹ 

you thought, ²  ‘No one sees me.’

Your self-professed ³  wisdom and knowledge lead you astray,

when you say, ‘I am unique! No one can compare to me!’ ⁴

59:7 Look, they hurl insults at me

73:11 They say, “How does God know what we do?

Malachi 2:17

Resistance to the Lord through Self-deceit

2:17 You have wearied the Lord with your words. But you say, “How have we wearied him?” Because you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the Lord’s opinion, ¹²  and he delights in them,” or “Where is the God of justice?”

The following question (“Who hears?”) is spoken by the psalmist’s enemies, who are confident that no one else can hear their threats against the psalmist. They are aggressive because they feel the psalmist is vulnerable and has no one to help him.

[73:11]  ⁷ tn Heb “How does God know? Is there knowledge with the Most High?” They appear to be practical atheists, who acknowledge God’s existence and sovereignty in theory, but deny his involvement in the world (see Pss 10:4, 11; 14:1).
